Day Two

Welcome to day two of my blogging experiment. So, in a nutshell, here's what has been going on with me for the last few days.

Friday afternoon, my parents and I left for a "family vacation." We ended up in the middle of nowhere near Johnson City, TX -- it took us like four hours to get here due to my father's constant "detour driving." But I'm not complaining; the ride is always the most fun part of any vacation, in my opinion.

Yesterday we drove into Stonewall, a little town in the middle of Redneck County. For fun, they ate peaches (and then had a "spitting contest" -- that is, whoever could spit their peach seed the farthest won), raced armadillos, and showed off their decked out... lawnmowers. Yeah, I know. Nobody but a true redneck is going to put a truck motor into a lawnmower.

But enough badmouthing. We ate at this moderately-sized diner yesterday for lunch, and it was truly amazing. All three of us had the special -- chicken-fried steak -- and it was utterly superb. Seriously, if you're ever in or near Stonewall, TX, eat at this place. I can't remember the name of it, but it's one of two restaurants in town and it has a spinning sign that reads "Cafe" floating above the gas pumps.

It was also my best friend Taylor's birthday yesterday, so I called him and wished him a happy b-day -- sweet, eh? I felt bad for not being able to hang out with him, but my parents have a nasty tendency of scheduling vacation over Taylor's birthday.

Today, my parents and I are supposed to check out a Lyndon B. Johnson museum that we've already seen, and then drive into Fredericksburg, TX, which we've already seen (and before you ask, no, I'm not sure how I managed to spell that right on my first try). My father isn't exactly creative with his family-vacation ideas.

So, as far as this blog goes, I'm really hoping to make my own template soon -- I absolutely hate using pre-made templates for any site, especially something as unique and personal as a blog. I probably won't be able to actually get started on it until I'm back home, though; knowing me (and I think I can say that I do rather well), I'll probably just use one of the dozens of site layouts I already have stored on my desktop as a result of my downtime over the last few years.

Well, I'd better get going pretty soon, or my parents are going to have a fit. I can hear it now -- "We brought you all the way out here and you're doing nothing but sitting on that damn computer!" Yeah, you get the picture.
